World Literature 1 and2  (Grades 11/12)

Because the 21st century increasingly demands global citizens, the Park Falls High School English Department offers a two-semester survey of world literature.   During the first semester, we will acquaint ourselves with the ancient world to the Middle East and Africa to early Europe.  In addition we will study a variety of genres and write with a number of audiences in mind, providing opportunities to improve or expand communication and critical thinking skills.  This course is designed for students preparing for two or four-year post-high school training.

Communications (Grade 12)

This course enhances written communication skills through the study of grammar, usage, structure, organization, and composition.  It provides an opportunity for students to apply written and oral communication skills in technical or business writing and develops word processing, page layout, design, and research skills.  This course prepares seniors for a technical college communications class.

Advanced Placement English (Grades 11/12)

This is two-semster course that may be taken in two consecutive years. It is offered to students with good mastery of English skills and provides training in college-level critical thinking and writing. It also includes a survey of American and British Literature. Because the curriculum will change between odd and even years, students who successfully complete this course are prepared to take the AP Literature and Composition (beginning 2005) or AP Language and Composition (beginning 2006) exams should they wish to do so. These exams may allow students to earn college credit while in high school.
